Meta Ads Getting Clicks but No Enquiries? What to Check

Diagnose Meta Ads that attract clicks without useful enquiries. Review the offer, landing page, lead quality and follow-up before increasing spend.

A speech bubble filled with interactions contrasts with a single contact at a doorway, representing attention and useful enquiries.

When Meta Ads attracts clicks but few useful enquiries, inspect what happens after the click and whether the offer attracts the right buyer. Cheap interactions can coexist with an expensive customer acquisition process. Judge the campaign using accepted enquiries, qualified leads and sales as well as platform metrics.

This is a practical diagnostic framework for service businesses advertising on Facebook and Instagram. It covers both website enquiries and forms completed within the platform. The evidence you need differs between those paths, so identify the actual destination first.

Find the point where progress stops

Pattern Check next
Many interactions, few destination visits Whether the reported click measures the action you intended
Visitors arrive, but forms remain empty Offer clarity, page usability and form completion
Forms arrive, but contacts do not fit Ad promise, qualification questions and audience relevance
Relevant leads arrive, but calls are missed Delivery, ownership and follow-up
The sales record and ad report disagree Event definitions, duplicates and attribution scope

Check the outcome the campaign is set up to pursue

Read the campaign’s selected objective, destination and optimisation settings. Ask whether the outcome being measured represents a real enquiry. A campaign assessed mainly on visits or engagement can look successful while failing the commercial goal.

Do not change settings simply because one reporting column looks disappointing. First confirm that the event used for measurement happens when the expected business action succeeds, and that the destination is working. Preserve a record of the original setup before testing a meaningful change.

Make the offer specific enough to qualify attention

Your ad should help a suitable buyer recognise their problem and understand the next step. Explain the service, who it is for and what the enquiry starts. Where relevant, disclose service area, eligibility or a genuine starting price that your business can honour.

A hypothetical ad offering “Free marketing tips” may attract people seeking education. An ad offering “Review your paid-search lead tracking” makes a different promise. Either may suit a strategy, but the resulting contacts should not be judged against the same readiness-to-buy expectation.

Use client examples only with permission and describe outcomes accurately. Broad claims such as guaranteed sales create the wrong expectation and are difficult to substantiate.

Inspect the mobile path from the actual ad destination

Open the landing-page URL on a phone and check the first screen. Can the visitor identify the service and find the enquiry action? Does the wording match the ad? Does the form remain usable with the on-screen keyboard open?

Complete a clearly labelled test. Verify acceptance, confirmation, delivery and the record in the system your team actually checks. Repeat for an embedded scheduler or another domain involved in the journey. Remove test records from performance reporting.

For a platform-hosted form, confirm that a submission reaches the responsible person. A functioning form with a disconnected or unattended lead destination can still lose enquiries.

Measure a completed action, then measure its quality

For website enquiries, keep form starts separate from successful submissions. Google lists generate_lead as a recommended GA4 event for a form or information request; recommended events require implementation and context. See Google’s recommended event guidance. GA4 does not automatically observe a form completed entirely inside Facebook or Instagram.

Regardless of where the enquiry starts, classify it in the CRM or a controlled lead register. Use clear reasons such as valid and in scope, outside service area, wrong service, duplicate or spam. Record whether contact was attempted and whether a conversation happened.

Fix duplicate or false events before relying on a conversion total. Our duplicate lead checklist explains how to investigate repeated records.

Compare campaigns using cost per qualified lead

The cheapest submitted form may not be the cheapest opportunity. Consider this hypothetical comparison using equal USD media spend and the same qualification criteria:

Sample result Campaign A Campaign B
Media spend $600 $600
Raw leads 60 30
Qualified leads 6 12
Cost per raw lead $10 $20
Cost per qualified lead $100 $50

Campaign B costs more per form but less per qualified lead in this sample. That still does not prove it produces more profit: compare completed sales, acquisition cost and contribution after allowing time for follow-up. These are illustrative figures, not benchmarks or reported client outcomes.

Run a test you can explain

Choose the most likely constraint from the evidence. For low relevance, test more specific offer wording. For form abandonment, remove an unnecessary step. For uncontactable enquiries, review collection accuracy and the follow-up process.

Keep other major inputs as stable as practical, set an affordable test allowance and decide which outcome will guide the next action. Review the change after enough time for the normal enquiry cycle. Daily edits and tiny samples make it difficult to know what helped.

Should you switch from Meta Ads to Google Ads?

Channel choice depends on demand, offer, economics and the buying journey. Changing platforms will not fix a broken booking form or missed enquiries. Compare the roles of each channel in our Google Ads versus Meta Ads guide after diagnosing the current path.
